A flying visit to Rostov-on-Don
While headed from the Ukrainian capital of Kiev to the Black Sea resort of Sochi, we had to change trains in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but we did find an interesting fried chicken shop.

Russian high-speed railways and level crossings
Russia’s fastest train is the Сапсан (Sapsan) which links Moscow to Saint Petersburg at speeds of up to 250 km/h (155 mph). It entered service in December 2009 on existing railway tracks, which raised safety concerns in the villages along the way. So how did they react?
